Bangs! They are the current rage this season. It was a popular trend last year, but now with Michele Obama wearing bangs it seems to have increased the awareness of this trend. The question of whether or not to shorten the fringe area of the hairline is being asked by almost every client right now.
Fringe (/frinj/)n. a shaped cutting of the front part of the hair so that it lies over the forehead. A classic fringe (bang) is cut fairly straight at or above the eyebrows, but they can also be ragged or ruffled, spiked up with hair gel, swept to one side or the other, or cut longer to fall over the eyes.
For many people it can be a difficult decision to wear bangs. It is important that your hair stylist is aware of any apprehension and can discuss all of the possible looks with you to make sure you can wear them easily, overcome any cowlicks, and even have a plan to grown them back out when you are ready to go long again.
If you are not sure what look you want to achieve, preview samples of bangs, from straight cut to side swept. Click here to view my Bangs and Fringe collection on Pinterest. We know that pictures are worth a thousand words and having a picture to refer to when you sit down with your Hair Stylist is a strong positive reference to look at.
Remember, hair is fun and bangs can really brighten your eyes, lift your cheekbones and cover a large forehead. A straight bang can shorten a long face and long slightly parted bangs or short, layered and lifted bangs can elongate a round face. Consider your options and try something new or different. A small change to your hair can really make you feel refreshed and new.
